Sciatica and leg pain
Chiropractic can help with sciatica.
Sciatica can be more debilitating than simple back pain.
Sciatica, or nerve root compression, trapped nerve, occurs when the nerve roots exiting the spine, which make up the sciatic nerve, become irritated or compressed.
Sciatica typically lasts longer than low back pain. A common cause of sciatica is a herniated - or slipped/prolapsed - disc, which if damaged, can press on the nerves leaving the spine producing leg pain, numbness and tingling, as well as back pain. There are also various other causes of sciatica which can be determined by examination.
Sciatica is often more debilitating than simple back pain, and treatment can take longer, often taking several months to heal fully. A small percentage, around 10% of people, may need to seek a surgical consultation.
For patients with sciatica we use a combination of highly specific manual technqiues, followed by a rehabilitation exercise programme.
